What to Expect

Snorkeling trips in Marino Ballena Park begin in our diving center, where we will welcome you with a bottle of water and complete all formalities. We will also discuss the daily plan and safety rules. After that, we will go to the beach, where our boat will be waiting for us, which will take us to the best places for snorkeling in Marino Ballena.

As Marino Ballena National Park is very close, our journey will be short. For this reason, we can start the trip a bit later than the trips to Isla del Caño. The entire tour will last several hours, during which you will see several snorkeling spots.

All activities in the water will take place under the supervision of a guide who will also try to find and show you interesting animals. During the break between entering the water, snacks and drinks will be at your disposal. Of course, you can return to the boat at any time. Finally, we will return to the beach where the captain will drop us off the boat. If you feel like it, you can stay in the national park as your tickets are valid all day.

A snorkeling trip at the Marino Ballena National Park is a great way to spend a family day and see the underwater beauty of Costa Rica. We’ve collected a few of the most frequently asked questions about snorkeling and you can find answers to them below. At any time, you can contact our diving center if you have questions or want to make a reservation.

Is Marino Ballena National Park worth visiting?

Marino Ballena Park was established in 1989 and thus became the first marine national park in Costa Rica. The main purpose of the park is to protect species of commercial value as well as other important biological specimens. El Tómbolo de Punta Uvita is perhaps the most photogenic place in Marino Ballena. This unusual rock formation was created as a result of the refraction of sea waves. From a bird’s eye view, this place looks like a whale’s tail, which further emphasizes the importance of this place for the protection of marine organisms, including large whales. At low tide there is a narrow strip of beach connecting the beach with Tómbolo. Thanks to this, you can go to the tail with a dry foot. However, at high tide, the area is flooded and the passage is completely hidden under the water. For this reason, this transition is called “the path of Moses”. All this makes the Marino Ballena National Park definitely a place worth visiting, and a snorkeling trip will only help you get to know this place better.

Is snorkeling safe?

Snorkeling is swimming on the surface of the water with a mask and a snorkel. Thanks to this, you can look under the surface of the water and you do not have to stick your head out to get some air every now and then. In our diving center, all water activities are carried out under the supervision of experienced guides and diving instructors. We are professionals, thanks to which our safety standards are high and our procedures are checked. Snorkeling itself is very safe and suitable even for children. The more that each swimmer is secured with a life jacket, and the guide is always the first to enter the water and the last to leave it. Who can and who cannot participate in a snorkeling trip in Marino Ballena?

As we mentioned earlier, snorkeling is fun for the whole family. Children in particular will be delighted to be able to peek below the surface of the water. Our tours are prepared for everyone, however, we reserve certain limitations to ensure the safety of our clients. Generally, the age from which you can participate in a snorkeling trip is 5 years. If your child is younger, you must contact us in advance to assess the possibilities and rules of your child’s participation in the trip. As with any water activity, drinking alcohol is a bad idea and we can refuse to board the boat to anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Can I go snorkeling if I have a disability?

The ocean has the advantage that many of our limitations do not exist when we are in the water. Diving and snorkeling are highly recommended activities for people with physical and mental disabilities. Immersing in water allows you to feel light, like being weightless. All your mobility limitations disappear and you can move with unprecedented ease. Our diving center is adapted and has the capacity to serve customers with disabilities. Please contact us in advance to prepare everything for your arrival.
