What can I expect on a scuba diving course?

You have decided to start your underwater adventure. Great! The PADI Open Water Diver course is the first step on this wonderful path. During the course you will learn everything you need to know to dive safely to a depth of 18m.

Diving course – theoretical part

The course starts with theoretical part during which you will learn all necessary rules. The theoretical part will be implemented with the help of an excellent e-learning module, which has been prepared in such a way as to provide you with all the knowledge in an accessible way. The advantage of e-learning training is that you can use it anytime, anywhere. After completing the module, the instructor will answer all your questions and doubts. We will sum up the theoretical knowledge together and move on to the practical part.

Practicing scuba skills in the pool

Then it will be time for practical classes in the pool, where you will have time to practice everything you’ve learned in theory. It is very important to practice everything in a comfortable pool before jumping into the ocean. Our dive center, as the only one in the area, has its own training center with a pool for practice.

Open water dives as part of a scuba diving course

The next two days are the diving part, during which we will make 4 dives to a maximum depth of 18 meters. This course includes 2 days of diving at Isla del Cano, which is the best diving site in Costa Rica.

After successfully completing all parts of the course you will officially become a diver!

Don’t hesitate anymore! Let’s make some bubbles together!

Getting your scuba license is a great adventure and the beginning of a new hobby. We have collected some of the most frequently asked questions about the scuba diving course, and you will find the answers below.

How much does a scuba diving course in Costa Rica cost?

All our diving courses are taught by licensed and experienced scuba instructors. Our equipment is always in working order, cleaned and disinfected after each use. There are no shortcuts in the training program or in the safety of our students. Despite these high standards, the price of a scuba diving course in Costa Rica is not far from the average price in the world. The price includes everything necessary for the course and a small surprise at the end of the course. Remember, you get what you pay for… In this part of Costa Rica we are the only accredited PADI dive center with our own pool and training facilities.

Do I need to have experience to take a scuba diving course?

Absolutely, no! Even people who have never tried scuba diving with breathing equipment can take a basic scuba diving course. During the course you will learn all the rules of equipment operation and safe behavior under water. Our instructor will take care of everything and answer all your questions. Costa Rica is a great place to take the PADI Open Water Diver course because of the warm and safe ocean waters.

Are there any health contraindications to taking the course?

Each participant of the PADI OWD scuba course must fill out a medical form and answer all questions honestly. Although diving is very safe, there are contraindications that exclude participation in a diving course. An example would be pregnancy, during which you are not allowed to dive. If you are not sure if you can dive, it is best to consult a medical specialist. Our dive center reserves the right to send you for additional medical examination in case of doubts about your health.

I’ve already started a course somewhere else. What now?

If you have already started your scuba diving course in another diving school, or even in another federation than PADI, there is no problem for you to complete your course in Costa Rica Divers. Remember that starting a course does not condemn you to complete it at the same place. You have the right to change dive schools or instructors at any time. Our scuba diving course in Uvita is certainly a good choice.

Where does your diving course price come from?

The scuba diving course consists of 4 parts. Each of these parts is necessary to pass the training and obtain PADI Open Water Diver license. But what is important – you don’t have to do all the parts at the same time, or even at the same dive center or with the same instructor. If you have limited time, you can take the classes in the pool and for example one diving day, and finish the rest in another place and time. To make your learning process faster and easier, PADI has created an interactive theory learning package. This package is also included in the price of our course and you can start your diving adventure without leaving your home! You can read more about the e-learning package here: How to start your diving adventure without leaving your home?

In our dive center single parts of the diving course cost:

  • PADI e-learning – 199$ (price in USD)
  • training session in the pool – CRC 64,000
  • each diving day (Isla del Cano) – CRC 145,000

As you can see, it is better to do the entire course in one place, as it can be more costly to complete later. However, if you have already started a course elsewhere and want to complete it at Costa Rica Divers, please contact us. We will certainly find a good solution. Please note that the above unit prices may vary depending on the elements you need to complete and our capabilities.
