Have you thought about combining your passion for diving with the opportunity to work as a dive guide and get an interesting profession? Such an opportunity arises when you hold the PADI Divemaster degree. This degree allows you to work as a certified assistant and underwater guide in dive centers around the world. It also opens the way to the PADI Instructor ranks and allows you to become a Professional Instructor.

The PADI Divemaster is the first professional course after which you can work as a professional diver. As a PADI Divemaster, you will supervise certified divers during their diving activities and exploration of the underwater world. It is clear that as a Divemaster you will have a significant impact on whether these individuals become interested in diving and whether they consider it their new hobby. Directing your steps towards further education on a professional level, through the Assistant Instructor degree you will be able to take an instructor course and become an Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Why take the PADI Divemaster course with Costa Rica Divers?

We are diving professionals ourselves and understand very well how important it is for every diver to move from recreational to professional level. In short, everything that will be useful in your work as a divemaster. We emphasize once again – this is a professional course, and obtaining a PADI Divemaster license is an honor, which can be achieved after demonstrating knowledge and skills at a professional level.

Course Details

The goal of the PADI Divemaster course is to prepare the diver to begin a professional career in the diving industry. In this course you will learn not only how to guide clients, but also how to react in emergency situations. One of the many responsibilities of a divemaster is also to teach courses similar to the PADI Reactivate, so this will also be part of your training.

You must also meet the requirements to join and complete the PADI Divemaster course:

Entry requirements for the Divemaster course:

  1. Have an PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent) certificate. By “equivalence” is meant having a non-PADI certification at the rescuer-diver level. If the applicant for Divemaster provides proof of completion of an equivalent course, he should also provide proof of completion of the first aid course in the previous 24 months. If the applicant does not meet the requirements for the Initial Rescue Skills Assessment, he or she should complete the PADI Rescue Diver course.
  2. Completed the Emergency First Response course in the last 24 months
  3. Have completed and logged 40 dives in the log book.

What to Expect

You are surely wondering what you will learn on the PADI Divemaster course in Costa Rica. The answer is simple. Your skills will be improved to the demonstration level under the guidance of instructors with years of experience. Your knowledge will be consolidated and expanded by theoretical issues, which will also be the basis for completing the instructor course.

You will have practical classes, thanks to which you will gain experience in working with other divers. You will become a competent person who can effectively manage an organization as well as professionally support instructors during courses.

During your training, you will do the practical and theoretical part. These parts consist of:

PADI Divemaster course – theoretical part

Theoretical classes consist of 12 lectures, a written exam and the preparation of an emergency plan in case of a diving accident. Theoretical classes are conducted using modern training techniques with the use of multimedia projector, presentation and professional lecture. Theoretical classes are conducted in an interactive manner with the use of teaching aids such as textbooks, knowledge tests, exercise books, etc.

PADI Divemaster course – practical part

Practical exercises include program workshops that the Divemaster may conduct, workshops on supervising divers during both pool and open water training. These workshops include training divers for Open Water Diver and other degrees and specializations. Of course part of the training will also include practical workshops on how to supervise certified divers on their recreational dives.

Internship during the PADI Divemaster course in Costa Rica

The internship is a very important part of your Divemaster training. It is during the internship that you will gain practical knowledge of the daily operation and work in a dive center. You will learn how to use computer programs to manage clients, how to repair and service dive equipment and how the daily work with the dive boat looks like. This is all part of the daily work of a Divemaster and I can’t imagine earning your license without doing an internship.
