A scuba diving course in Costa Rica is a great way to stay active during your vacation in the tropics. Our dive center offers PADI courses, upon completion of which you will receive an international license to dive to a depth of 18m. This diving course takes place in the Marino Ballena National Park in Uvita. You will make four dives and discover the beauty of this underwater world.

Course Details

The first step in every diver’s journey is the PADI Open Water Diver course. On this course you will learn how to operate the diving equipment, how to plan and conduct an enjoyable and safe dive. After completing the course you will receive an international PADI OWD license, which authorizes you to dive all over the world to the depth of 18m.

You must be at least 15 years old to take the PADI Open Water Diver course. Students between the ages of 10 and 15 will receive a PADI Junior Open Water Diver license.

Our courses are taught from PADI materials that will allow you to learn all the basics on your own, which you will later discuss with your instructor.

What to Expect

You have made the decision to take a scuba diving course and want to learn how to be a good diver. The PADI Open Water Diver course will allow you to earn your PADI diver’s license.

The diving course consists of three parts:

Theory part – here you will learn the basics of diving, gas physics and equipment operation. Don’t worry, everything is set up in a simple and easy way. As part of this scuba diving course, you will receive an e-book as a basis for learning.

Practical part in the swimming pool – during the class you will learn how to use the equipment, correct body positioning while diving and you will do several different exercises.

Open Water Dives – The final part of this course will be to perform four open water dives. These dives will take place at the Marino Ballena National Park in Uvita.

After successfully passing all parts of the course, you will officially become a diver!

Then we need three days for the pool part and four open water dives. We do these dives in the Marino Ballena National Park. So to answer the question of how long the diving course takes – we need three days of practical activities.


Do I need any experience to take a scuba diving course?

Absolutely not. This is a basic course that is designed to teach you everything you need to know about scuba diving. Of course, later you can take other courses to expand your knowledge. If you are not sure if a scuba diving course is for you, but want to try scuba diving, we also have something for you. Can I change my dives at Marino Ballena to Isla del Caño?

Of course, you can buy an upgrade to your dive course and swap the dive at Marino Ballena for a dive at Isla del Caño. We can also change one dive day so that you can visit both sites during your dive course. The surcharge for changing one dive day to Isla del Cano is $100 Please contact us to discuss the details.
