What can I expect on the Discover Scuba Diving Tour?

What is the try dive on Caño Island like?

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program begins with a short theory lesson. After learning the general principles of dive equipment and safety rules, you will make two dives accompanied by an instructor.

The maximum dive depth is 12 m (40 ft). The entire dive takes approximately 40 minutes, but this is dependent on air consumption. After the dive you will receive a certificate confirming your participation in the PADI DSD program. This certificate can be presented when you enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver course, so that your first dive will count as part of the course.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the biological reserve on Caño Island, which is considered one of the best dive sites in Costa Rica.

How do you get from Uvita to Cano Island?

All Discover Scuba trips from Uvita begin at Marino Ballena National Park. This is a great opportunity to see two national parks in one day! All park fees are included in the price of the snorkeling tour.

The Cano Island is about 50 minutes from the beach in Uvita and you will cover this distance by fast boat. There is no other way to get to the island.

Once there, you will have the opportunity to dive and see the amazing underwater world. During the break there will be time for snacks and relaxation on the paradise beach.

At the end of the day, we will return to the Costa Rica Divers office where we will have time to discuss our scuba diving experience and beautiful Isla del Cano.

The first dive in your life is something unforgettable that will stay with you for life. You will discover new possibilities and see what humans are capable of with the help of modern equipment. Such a try dive in Costa Rica is a great way to see the underwater world in a safe and comfortable environment. Below we have collected some of the most frequently asked questions about dive trials and prepared answers to them. Feel free to contact our dive center if you have any questions.

What is the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program?

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program is designed for people who would like to try scuba diving. If you want to see if this is for you, the DSD would be a good idea before deciding to take a scuba diving course. You don’t have to worry about operating the equipment or navigating underwater. Your Instructor will do it all for you, and your only responsibility will be to breathe and enjoy the view.

Do I need to know how to swim?

This answer may surprise you, but you don’t need to know how to swim to scuba dive. When you are underwater, you use scuba gear, especially a buoyancy vest. This is what keeps you at the desired depth and prevents you from sinking. Being able to swim is helpful but it is not at all necessary. It is worth noting that scuba diving is practiced even by disabled people who cannot swim. Being underwater is a window to new experiences for them.

Can you breathe with the mask on?

Mask for diving is one of the basic pieces of equipment. It is worn on the face in such a way that it protects the eyes and covers the nose. So we will not be able to breathe through the nose, but we can successfully breathe through the mouth with the help of the diving regulator. This is a special device that supplies air from the cylinder directly to the mouth. Breathing through such a regulator does not differ from breathing on the surface and does not cause any difficulties.

Can I dive alone after completing the PADI Discover Scuba Diving?

The PADI Discover Scuba Diver program is a way to explore the underwater world and see if you would like to become a certified diver. Participating in this program does not give you a scuba license and does not entitle you to dive independently. However, if you decide that you would like to take a scuba diving course and obtain a diver’s license, a test dive can be counted as part of the course. Contact us for details.

How long does an air tank last?

The maximum time for a test dive is 45 minutes, as this is regulated by the National Park. On average, the air supply in the cylinder is sufficient for that long of being underwater. But it really all depends on you. If you are breathing fast and your excitement is at its peak, the air will be used up faster and the dive will be shorter. However, you can be sure that you will not run out of air. The instructor will guide the dive according to your skills and will constantly check the air level.
