What to Expect

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program begins with a short theoretical lesson and exercises in the pool. After getting acquainted with the general principle of diving equipment and safety rules, you will do one dive in the company of an instructor.

The maximum depth you will descend is 12m (40ft). The entire dive will take approximately 40 minutes, but this is dependent on your tank air consumption. After diving, you will receive a certificate confirming your participation in the PADI DSD program. You can show this certification when enrolling in the PADI Open Water Diver course so that your first dive is counted as part of the course.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the Caño Island National Park, which is considered one of the best diving spots.

The first dive in your life is something unforgettable that will accompany you throughout your life. You will discover new possibilities and see what a man is capable of with the help of modern equipment. Such a try diving in Costa Rica is a great opportunity to try the underwater world in safe and comfortable conditions. Below we have gathered some of the most frequently asked questions about try diving and prepared the answers to them. Feel free to contact our diving center with any questions.

What is the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program?

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program has been created for people who would like to try scuba diving. If you want to find out if diving is for you, DSD will be a good idea before deciding to take a diving course. You don’t have to worry about operating the diving equipment or navigating under water. Your instructor will do it all for you and your only responsibility will be to breathe and enjoy the views.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Perhaps this answer will surprise you, but you don’t need to know how to swim to dive. Underwater, you use scuba gear, especially a buoyancy vest. It is thanks to her that you can stay at the desired depth and you will not sink. The ability to swim is helpful for diving, but it is not necessary at all. It is worth noting that diving is practiced even by disabled people who cannot swim. Being underwater is a window to new experiences for them.

Can you breathe with the mask on?

A diving mask is one of the basic pieces of equipment. It is put on the face in such a way that it protects the eyes and covers the nose. Consequently, you will not be able to breathe through your nose, but you will successfully breathe through your mouth with the help of the dive regulator. It is a special device that delivers air from the cylinder directly to your mouth. Breathing through such an automaton is no different from breathing on the surface and does not cause any difficulties.

Can I dive alone after completing the PADI Discover Scuba Diver program?

The PADI Discover Scuba Diver program is a way to get to know the underwater world to see if you would like to become a certified diver. Participation in this program does not grant you a diver’s license and does not entitle you to dive alone. However, if you decide that you would like to take a diving course and obtain a diver’s license, your test dive may be counted as part of the course. Contact us for details.

How long does an air tank last?

Your try dive will last a maximum of 45 minutes as it is regulated by the rules of the national park and the biological reserve. On average, the air supply in the cylinder is enough to stay under water for such a long time. But it really all depends on you. If you breathe quickly and your emotions reach its peak, the air will be consumed faster and the dive will be shorter. However, you can be sure that you will not run out of air. Your instructor conducts the dive according to your abilities and constantly checks your air level.
