Start working as a PADI Divemaster

You are already a professional PADI Divemaster diver, but would like to upgrade your qualifications. The DSD Leader is the perfect complement to your Divemaster certification. The PADI DSD Leader degree will allow you to independently lead the Discover Scuba Diving program at the pool. You will be able to introduce new people to the world of scuba diving and enjoy the joy and satisfaction when they take their first breath underwater.

Why take part in PADI DSD Leader with Costa Rica Divers?

We conduct all of our training in such a way as to give you practical knowledge, not just a certificate. It does not matter whether it is a basic course or PADI Divemaster. The most important thing is practical knowledge and experience that will help you in later diving or working with clients. We are not a “certificate factory” and there are no shortcuts for us. Our standards are set higher so you can proudly say you trained with Costa Rica Divers. If you are looking for a quick and easy license, you have come to the wrong address.

But why is our DSD Leader course different from others?

First of all, we are a PADI accredited diving center. We are the only dive center in the area with our own training facilities and our own pool. Our prices are always complete and include all materials and items necessary to complete the course. With us, you will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities with real clients whom you will introduce to the underwater world.

DSD Leader Course Details

The goal of the PADI DSD Leader training is to prepare professional divers to conduct pool activities with people who have no diving experience. As a PADI Divemaster you already know how to work with licensed divers and how to lead underwater expeditions. Raising your qualifications to the PADI DSD Leader level will allow you to enter the world of teaching. At any dive center in the world, a DSD Leader is sure to find a job for themselves because by taking over some of the responsibilities of training PADI Discover Scuba Diving, they can take some of the pressure off the instructor.

What to Expect on DSD Lider Course?

PADI DSD Leader training includes at least 4 pool lessons with PADI DSD students. During these lessons we will test your knowledge of the Divemaster course and you will learn how to introduce people to the world of diving. The goal of this training is to teach you how to conduct pool lessons in a safe, practical and enjoyable way for your students. You will take over most of the responsibilities during each subsequent pool session, until eventually you will lead the entire pool session yourself.

You will also participate in all ocean dives with DSD students. Of course, this will be under the active control of the instructor, but you will see how your students put your knowledge into practice. This will also be the ultimate test and confirmation that you can teach diving.

Your PADI DSD Leader status will not be confirmed until you have demonstrated absolutely professional and safe treatment of novice divers in the water.

Professional dive training is a long and enjoyable journey, which you started with the PADI Divemaster course. Now you can expand your qualifications by earning the PADI DSD Leader degree. We have prepared some questions and answers about this program and our training courses. If you have additional questions or would like to book a course, please contact us.

What does DSD Lider mean?

DSD Leader does not mean instructor, but it does require some teaching skills and imparting knowledge in an enjoyable way. Experience at the DSD Leader level can be very useful if you are planning further professional development in the future. The PADI DSD Leader has the knowledge and authority to teach the pool phase of the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program. This means that classes can be taught in a pool or in open water that offers pool-like conditions in terms of clarity, calmness and depth.

What qualifications does PADI DSD Lider have?

As mentioned above, a PADI Divemaster with PADI DSD Leader status may conduct a pool section with PADI Discover Scuba Diving students. Such training can be conducted without instructor supervision, which is not possible with only a PADI Divemaster license. This is why it is so important to have a good understanding of the training and to acquire the skills that will allow you to conduct the training safely. After obtaining a leader’s license you will be able to train up to 4 students in the pool or 2 students if the training takes place in open water.

Is it worth getting the leader degree?

Professional diving degrees are usually obtained in order to work in the diving industry. As a PADI Divemaster, you can work in a dive center and lead tours for people with a diving license. Obtaining additional qualifications through this course will increase your chances of finding a good job. Think of it this way: will a dive center hire someone who has “just” Divemaster status, or someone who can do more?
